3 tips for cycling routes
If you are looking for a cycling escape into nature, where every turn reveals a new beauty and every hill hides a different story, Poloniny is the right place. We offer you three of the most beautiful routes that are definitely worth taking:
A route designed for those who long to connect with nature and neighbouring countries. It leads through the heart of the Poloniny National Park and allows you to discover not only the Slovak, but also the Polish and Ukrainian wilderness. It is a path full of green groves, lively streams and unexpected encounters with wildlife, allowing you to experience nature without borders.
In Slovakia, it starts at the Polish border at Ruski sedlo, down Porta Rusica alongside the Starina water reservoir, towards Kolonice sedlo alongside the Astronomical Observatory and towards Ubľa.
It offers a unique insight into the spirituality and art of the region. This trail leads past breathtaking wooden churches that are living memories of the rich cultural and religious history of the Poloniny Mountains and the entire Carpathian Mountains.
Cyclists can see with their own eyes masterpieces of European sacred architecture dating from the late Middle Ages to the late 18th century, while experiencing the tranquillity that emanates from these historic sites. They are a unique example of the fusion of two great cultures - Eastern and Western, Byzantine and Latin.
Honey Baba - the easternmost route, which is perfect for adventure. It connects the village of Nová Sedlica with the mysterious figure of Žofia Matašovská, known as the Honey Baba. The goal is a meadow where a 7m high wooden statue awaits you, but nearby you can see the famous Count's huts or a small pond.
The path takes you through forests full of silence and peaceful meadows full of flowers and herbs, where time seems to stand still. It is a route for those who want to escape from the mundane and experience a piece of ancient legends and a magical world.
